WP 2 – The data analysis of the current state of the digital economy
Objective:
To analyze secondary data to specify the state of the digitalization in CEE region and in Southeast Asia
To create a secondary data dataset on the state of digitalization in selected Southeast Asian countries (Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia)
Description:
The analysis for the EU will cover all DESI digital subindicators
(Broadband Connectivity, Human Capital, Use of Internet, Integration of Digital Technology, and Digital Public Services) during the period 2015-2020, but also complementary data from EIBIS, ITU, and the World Bank. A comparison between pre- and post-COVID-19 period as well as relative to other developed economies such as the US will be performed. Both the time-series
dimension of DESI data as well as the cross-sectional nature across EU-27 countries will be performed to determine the dynamics and directions of observed changes. Furthermore, the β-convergence approach will be applied to identify the convergence paths (or
divergence) of various digital indicators across the EU countries. The focus of the researchers will be to collect and analyse data that enter the DESI index for the Southeast Asian countries and compile a related dataset. Comparison of the results between individual Southeast Asian countries as well as for the EU and Southeast Asia will be carried out also regarding to factors affecting their digital performance. This analysis will provide an indication of the relative dynamics of the digital gap within the EU and in Southeast Asian countries.
